Hello, Shopify
Please take a look at this mini portfolio I've put together as my application for the Social Media Designer position.
It's a little bit about myself as a designer, followed by a quick edit of my most current and relevant pieces.
Afterwards, feel free to browse the other content on my website.
Thanks so much for your time and consideration!

I am a passionate designer, with a particular love for animation, especially when I get to work in a variety of styles such as traditional animation, tactile, stop motion and digital animation. In my spare time I make gifs, draw, take photos and post to social media. I would love to do that full time.
I'm fluent in After Effects, Illustrator, Photoshop, Premier, and also Lightroom and InDesign. I'm always wanting to learn new things and am currently learning C4D and Z-Brush to create content in the third dimension, as well as studying Adobe Animate to have full mastery of all things motion. I'm currently employed at Tendril Studio, one of the top animation and design studios in Canada, where I have gained lots of experience creating visual assets for Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Snapchat, and where I have had the satisfaction and fulfillment of watching our followers grow online. Prior to my employment at Tendril, I worked with a professional photographer, setting up on-location shoots and adding the finishing touches in post production. I've also freelanced in motion design for three years. I'm a graduate of the Algonquin College graphic design program, where I worked as a teacher's assistant for six classes spanning two subjects (UX/UI, and motion). Before that, I graduated from Carleton university with a double major in Film Studies and English Literature. I have won three Applied Arts Student awards and one RDG Student award for motion design. |
Sharable brand gifs for social media

I've recently been working with studios to leverage the use of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat to bring brands to life.
I love making gifs, because they have all the appeal of a finished piece, but can be completed in a fraction of the time, for instant sharing. Short, square, infinity looping gifs are like their own little self-contained worlds. They're perfect to post on social media, and they're immediately accessible and totally sharable. For me, gif-making is the most exciting part of creating visual brand assets. |
Profile pictures and banners for social media
I create custom profile pictures and banners for Relish Editing and Tendril Studio, for use on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. Often, these pieces are created to draw attention to newly released projects and videos. Sometimes, new profile pictures are needed to celebrate events, ranging from Toronto Pride to just celebrating of summer.

Branded event swag: social media IRL
I created some characters to be printed on enamel mugs for Style Frames NY 2016. Four of Tendril's creative directors were invited to speak to an audience of motion design, VFX, UX/UI, and VR professionals in New York City. The directors wanted to have some enamelware souvenirs to hand out to participants. I created one mug with a Canadian Goose, and a second mug with a Tendril Gryphon, a hybrid of a Brazilian toucan and a Canadian red fox, representing Tendril's dual nationality.
Reusable event pieces for Tendril X FITC VIP Party
I illustrated posters for the FITC Toronto 2016 VIP party at Tendril studio. Inspired by the fact that Johnny Cupcakes, Mr. Bingo, and Gary Baseman would be speaking this year, I went for an goofy old school style, even retrofying up the Tendril logo. These characters graced posters and signs around the event space, and afterwards were turned into short, sharable, gifs.
The party also featured a spacious dance floor with projection art of the Tendril logo. I created four pieces to be played all night on the dance floor, ensuring that every photo and video from the event would feature our brand. The individual pieces were given new life later, repurposed to be shared on Instagram and Twitter.

Social media for fundraising
In the months leading up to our graduation from Algonquin college design's program, I was in charge of creating gifs to send out over social media to encourage students, teachers, and industry to come out to our fundraising events. Eight looping animations, one for each event, were sent out over Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. The success of these events allowed us to raise quite a bit over our budget and we were able to set up a scholarship for second year students.
Additional Skills: Type in Motion
A couple examples of my work animating type. When type is the main focus of a piece, the animation is as important as the animation of any other element.
Additional Skills: Storyboarding
A couple examples of my storyboarding work. Storyboarding is an essential part to motion design process, to communicate ideas to clients and members of your team, as well as to work out how things will flow visually through edits and transitions.

I love illustrating and animating short gifs to share on my personal Instagram.
